2009 was a busy year for Partnerships between local industry and Schools . Businesses, students and community groups were able to participate in a number of very successful projects, such as the Solar Boat Challenge and Codarra Advanced Systems Challenge ( Thats Robots)

Solar Boat Challenge 09
- 3 years successfully running this project which provides learning opportunities for solar technology, basic electrical wiring, teambuilding and presentation skills.
- Project is mapped to Years 7-10 design and technology curriculum
- Working in class or small groups
- SIP is seeking business sponsorship for new and re-fill kits, team uniforms and additional solar components.
- This project is facilitated in conjunction with Penrith City Council and SEES
Codarra Robots & Penrith High School 09
- Students built a programmable remote controlled robot on wheels to enter the interstate Codarra Advanced Systems challenge
- More advanced then the solar boat challenge project, this robotics project is aimed at students interested in computer programming and science; or a gifted and talented group or used as an extra-curricular activity
- Students build and test their programmable robot working towards and achieving completion of a range of various obstacles from easy to more difficult at the challenge
Hawkesbury Business Skills Program
- The project outcomes are flexible at this stage and we invite all business studies/ services teachers or similar to converse with SIP and Hawkesbury City Council to map out a related project that ties in with class assessment needs.
- The project focuses on providing high schools students with insight into the working plans of a business, to help them prepare for the transition from school to work and encourages students to consider writing a business plan of their own or to take up the business studies subject.
- Industry mentors from the Hawkesbury area will assist the students with their individual journeys in completing the project
Telstra Marketing Academy
- Project and course materials are developed to support existing curriculum best aligned with the marketing unit of work in the Business Management/Business Studies key learning area. However, this project could also support English, Media Studies, Psychology, Information Technology or VET courses
- Students work in teams to analyze both Telstra and competitor approaches to marketing and develop a marketing activity designed to increase awareness of the Telstra Next G network for a specific segment. To complete this, students focus on the four P's of marketing: product, place, price and promotion.
- During the Telstra Marketing Academy project students will also gain specific understanding of business concepts and plans, establishing project objectives and identifying strategies, market segmentation and product differentiation and implementing promotions and campaigns that will align with specific learning outcomes.
