What is mentoring?

“Invest your past in their future.”

Imagine if you could take all the knowledge and experience you have back to your young self. What a world of information that would be.

Imagine all the things you would have taught yourself to be a success in your career and the benefits it would have had for your future.

Help young people find a rewarding and productive career path. In order to achieve this SIP has partnered with mentors and schools to boost students chances of a successful career after leaving school.

In an increasingly competitive job market, students want help planning and exploring a career pathway. To help students make these career choices SIP supports schools in delivering mentoring programs.

Students  receive the unique opportunities to learn about their career pathway from Career Mentors who are individuals with relevant career experience and industry knowledge.

Career Mentors are retired, semi retired or available volunteers that by virtue of their own career experience are ‘job experts’ in their occupation or industry. They have a lifetime of specialist skills, wisdom and judgment which would benefit students. The Career Mentors also receive free training.

The Career Mentors volunteer their time to share their expertise with students. This involves visiting the school and working with students in an informal and interactive workshop to help them understand where their trade or subject could take them and provide practical advice in their chosen field.

If you are interested in participating in this program or know somebody who is, we are currently recruiting volunteers to act as Career Mentors to help these students move from school to employment or further training.
